ESCOs Help Consumers Save

ESCO stands for “Energy Service Company.” When the power supply utility companies in New York were deregulated, ESCOs, including IDT Energy, came into being. Competition was introduced into an area which was essentially populated with monopolies which had government protection as well as regulation.

With deregulation came the competition which allowed prices, and services to bring in customers, hopefully encouraging the quality of services provided as well as helping to keep costs competitive.

Under this system energy service is divided into two parts, the supply of energy and its delivery. IDT Energy offers a “Switch and Save” program which allows consumers to choose IDT Energy as their supplier, while their local utility, such as Con Edison, remains in charge of power delivery.

Consumers are not compelled to switch to an ESCO, but in many cases, as when switching to IDT Energy, it is possible to save money on the monthly bill for electricity and natural gas.

IDT Energy Suggests Switching to CFLs to Save

On October 22 1879 Thomas Alva Edison had his first successful test of his invention that literally changed the world and the way we live in it, that is of course the electric light bulb. The basic design of the incandescent light bulb has changed little in all this time but today, with our increased awareness of the importance of saving energy, especially electricity, there is a concerted effort to change from the general use of incandescent bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs, or CFLs.

The technology for a long lasting and energy efficient fluorescent light bulb was developed by Philips in 1991 when it created a fluorescent light bulb which burned for 60,000 hours using magnetic induction.

IDT Energy suggests to consumers that they consider making the switch to CFLs in their homes and workplaces. There are several good reasons to do this:

• CFLs can last up to ten times longer
• CFLs use only a quarter of the energy
• CFLs produce about 90% less heat than incandescents while at the same time producing more light per watt.

Now that winter is here, the energy costs are likely climbing due to use of heat, hot water, and more. Companies like IDT Energy would agree that not all of the costs are necessary; you can cut back slightly on your bills if you follow these few tips:

1. Although you want nothing more than to relax in a hot, steaming bath after a cold winter day, doing so will cost you more for both the heating of the water, and the water itself. Showers use up less hot water than do baths.

2. Install an aerator to the end of your shower head to reduce water flow by up to half. Also, make sure to turn the faucet all the way off when you are done using them.

3. Don’t bother mopping and cleaning the house with hot water. Save the hot water for your showers, and lower your heating bill. Your house will look and feel clean even if you use soap with cold water.

Winter is arriving rapidly, and it is a little known fact that the cold weather can greatly affect your electricity bill. Companies such as IDT Energy can testify to the fact that proper use of appliances and a few quick home repairs can make this season much less expensive.

Saving Energy While Getting Your Clothes Clean: IDT Energy
